II1TPG is the Ham Radio callsign issued by the Italian Communications Ministry for the Paralympic events, starting with 2004 Test Events until the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games.
The callsign II1TPG will be used by the same hams who operated in 2003, during the European Year of People with Disabilities, using the call , and during the Paralympic Day in Torino (June the 2nd, 2004), using the call . These hams, in this period, founded the Torino Paralympic Radio Sport Team.
II1TPG has among its goals to increase interest towards Paralympic Games (either winter or summer); to get people acquainted with sporting activities performed by the disabled; to give disabled people another opportunity to get involved in a social, physical, therapeutical and recreational activity, underlining the benefits of a sporting activity, not necessarily agonistic.
Disabled operators are active in many Ham and SWL stations: Hams with equal opportunities who, in their radio activity, test new communication devices, which are to be used by other impaired persons in overcoming their handicaps.
